53 and Rocking it!

I hear this A LOT! ” oh I don’t want to lift weights and build muscle…

“I just want to work hard, get toned do lots of cardio and lose weight”

🙈.

Darling… to get toned you need to build muscle. To lose “weight” and keep it off you need to do resistance/weight training to build muscle and raise the metabolism..

I’m 53, and not perfect. I carry a wee bit more weight than I did a few years ago. I have cellulite, and I’m not exactly where I want to be.. but so what! I’m happy.

Lifting weights not only helps your metabolism, helps you lose body fat, but it also helps the mindset, helps release stress and reduce cortisol levels.

So, get some good advice, find out what you should be doing and just start rocking it.

Have you ever wondered why some women, you know the ones that do a lot of cardio type exercise and eat next to nothing, why they hit a certain age and start to look haggard, tired and in need of a good feed? A lack of muscle mass, and overtraining especially cardio training can in fact age you quicker, contribute to becoming more fragile and delicate, and unhealthy.

To get this toned look, you absolutely NEED to be doing some resistance training, either body weight or lifting   weights. No 2 ways about it. Fat is burned within the muscle cells, so therefore the more muscle you have, the more efficient your body is at burning fat. Makes sense right? It’s NOT about doing the cardio to burn fat, it’s about building muscle to raise your metabolism.

Do I look like a muscle bound body builder? No…yet I lift some decent weights 3 times/week. It’s part of my routine. I understand why I do this, and I schedule in time to   train. And you can too, once you know what to do.

So tell me, how do you want to feel? How do you want to look? How healthy do you want to be when you approach your 40’s and 50’s?

I recently had a client who I had been training for a while who had a mild health scare. Mild scare that could have elevated to a massive problem if left unattended. But she listened to the signs and took that on board as time to get her health and well being under control. Her training was good, but her diet needed to change. And it has…massively. Gone are the afternoon lollies, muffins and bad food that kept her feeling tired, bloated, overweight and feeling disgusted with herself. She has not only got her health to a fantastic level, she lost weight in the process. Funny how things change when things change!

So my question is this, where do you want to be when you hit the 40’s, 50’s and even 60’s, because it is going to happen. No doubt about that.

Do you want to feel fat and frumpy, tired and bloated, scrawny and frail?

Or, would you rather feel special and sexy, full of vitality, healthy and strong?

Because the choice is yours.
